was auf dem Titel des Taschenbuches steht: „Will keep your clinging to your armrests from the beginning to end.” Dabei ist das Ganze nicht mehr als eine sehr gut geschriebene Kriminalgeschichte. Spannend an ihr ist jedoch zusätzlich, dass jeder Leser spätestens Mitte des Buches der Überzeugung ist, dass er den Täter kennen würde, wenn er nur sorgfältige gelesen hätte. Doch glauben Sie mir, die Geschichte ist zu spannend, als dass Sie sie konzentriert und sorgfältig lesen würden.
Endlich mal wieder ein Krimi, für den es sich lohnt, sich die Nacht um die Ohren zu schlagen, um dem Ende entgegen zu fiebern.Ich konnte das Buch nicht aus der Hand legen, bevor ich nicht den Täter kannte.
Frank Harriman, der Ehemann der sonstigen Protagonistin Ireme Kelly, wird mit einem Fall betraut, der 10 Jahre zurück liegt. Durch das Auffinden eines abgestürzten Kleinflugzeuges in den San Berhardino Mountains, muss ein Fall wieder aufgeroolt werden, der seinerzeit das ganze Policedepartment in Aufruhr versetzte. Die Kollegen versuchen, Frank Harriman an dem Vorhaben zu hindern, den Fall doch noch zu klären.
Erneut beginnen Angriffe auf ehemalige Beteiligte, die Zahl der Verdächtigen wird immer größer, die Spannung steigt….
Ein echtes Lesevergnügen, viel Spaß mit Frank Harriman und Irene Kelly! : Jan Burke is best known as the author who gave life to Irene Kelly, the sassy, slightly hard-edged southern California journalist with a Pandoran penchant for getting herself into sticky situations. Her latest novel, however, perches adroitly on a tangential narrative branch: Burke focuses on Kelly’s husband, Las Piernas Detective Frank Harriman, and in doing so turns her narrative color wheel several notches to the darker side.

Flight is really the story of two men, Harriman and Philip Lefebvre. Ten years ago, when businessman Trent Randolph and his daughter were murdered, Lefebvre was the officer in charge of the case. Moody and isolated, he became not only investigator but guardian angel to Randolph’s young son Seth, left clinging to life after the attack. His colleagues and the community were convinced Whitey Dane, a local mobster with grand ambitions, was behind the murders, but when Seth was killed in his hospital bed and both Lefebvre and all the evidence against Dane disappeared, the department was left reeling in the wake of crooked-cop iniquity.

But now Lefebvre’s apparently sabotaged plane has been discovered in the mountains, along with his bones. Frank Harriman must ease through a maze of anger and recrimination as he pursues the possibility of Lefebvre’s innocence. But if this cop was innocent, that means another one wasn’t–and that individual will stop at nothing to protect his guilty secret.

The novel’s opening chapters, which place the original murders in stark relief and reveal the trap slowly closing around Lefebvre, are as good as anything Burke has written–maybe better. Their intensity is difficult to match, but Harriman’s investigation still has plenty of surprises, including a nifty twist at the very end. Flight’s solid writing, deftly nuanced relationships, and delicate bad-guy balance between chilling and camp are as on target here as elsewhere. He carries around a marching band bass drum that he keeps on drumming and drumming so as to show the long lasting life of the batteries. In the long line of famous cartoon rabbits Roger Rabbit rose to fame in the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” The premise of this tale is that Roger lives in Toontown and is framed for murder.

Rabbit from the Winnie the Pooh series and Br’er Rabbit are also famous bunnies from literature and film. The Rabbit in Winnie the Pooh is only one of two animals in A.A. Milne’s stories that maintains his real name [of 'Rabbit'] and is not a stuffed toy (like Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore) that belonged to Christopher Robin. Br’er Rabbit is a central character in Disney’s 1964 film “Song of the South” and makes a cameo appearance in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

The Pittsburgh Penguins is a team that has seen a lot of talented players who later went on to become NHL superstars and later on legends of the game. The most notable player is without a doubt the Great Mario Lemieux. Since his first season in the NHL in 1984 scoring his first goal on his first shot in the NHL a feat which has yet to be tied, to breaking the team record for most points in a season by a rookie. Mario was also the first rookie in the league’s history to be named Most Valuable Player.

When the Penguins drafted Sidney Crosby as their first pick, there was a lot of buzz circulating around in the hockey world comparing the great Mario Lemieux with Sidney the kid Crosby. In fact Crosby said that Lemieux was one of his idols growing up and the opportunity to play together was a dream come true. Unfortunately, the pair only played side by side for a short period of time as an irregular heart beat complication forced Lemieux into retirement.

Aside from the idolization and sharing the same locker room, these two players have a lot more in common. Both players in their respective times set the record for the most points by a rookie in the organization’s history. Mario originally set the bar during his first season in 1984 by scoring 100 points. It wasn’t until 2005, 11 years later, that Sidney Crosby beat the record by merely 2 points to finish the season with 102 points.

Their style on the ice while very similar in some ways, also differ. Mario was a natural leader and excelled as the Pittsburgh Penguins captain. When head coach Michel Therrien named Sidney Crosby captain of the team, the move drew heavy criticism from the press and fans alike. Sidney Crosby has yet to prove himself as a captain and until then he will unfortunately not be in the same league as Lemieux.

While some may think that Mario Lemieux would feel threatened by Sidney Crosby’s success, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact Lemieux has taken Sidney Crosby under his wing and has mentored him since the start. During the regular season with the Penguins, Crosby lives with Lemieux and his family in Pittsburgh.

Will Sidney Crosby someday be referred to as The Great Sidney Crosby and surpass his mentor? His rookie years certainly seem to point in that direction.

That’s about the scope. What more do you need? Add some terrific depth in goals and a Blueline that averages over 230 lbs and you have the makings not just of medal contention but of outright domination at the Olympic tournament.

Everyone has probably heard the joke about playing a country song backwards, but just in case you haven’t: What do you get if you play a country song backwards? You get your dog back, your car back, your house back and your wife back. Sad as it is to say, that isn’t only the case with country songs. According to the US Census Bureau, roughly 40-50 percent of Americans will at some point be able to say the same thing about playing their lives backwards. Sad as that is, it’s sadder still that most never work out the problems that caused the loss.
